Set in an area where Cotton was once king, midst the towns of Manchester and the quiet rolling acres of sprawling Cheshire countryside, lies the little town of Bramhall whose most famous feature is Bramall Hall.

The Hall is the former ancestral home of the Davenport family, it was built mainly in the 16th-century and is noted for its exquisite Black and White exterior with many gables. Apart from being a national treasure, this superb building is Cheshire's most beautiful Tudor mansion, displaying all the art of English Tudor and Jacobean craftsmanship.

Unveiled before you is a triumph created by the loving care of the family who lived in the house for over 500 years and although the house retains little from its founders, it has a galaxy of beautifully adorned rooms which are evocative of a more romantic age. There is wonderful plasterwork and magnificent wall-paintings throughout and although there is not much of it, the period furniture set around the rooms is quite delightful. The Victorian kitchen and servants quarters have been restored, they have a real 'lived in' feel with an authentic sense of history pervading each room. From every window the lovely views extend over gardens set with a rich array of colourful plants and flowers, to the sweeping parkland where there is a nature trail and fine woodland walks.

Bramall Hall has a regular and carefully thought out programme of events which appeal to every age. It also has immense appeal to those wishing to stage their wedding in a setting of great historic splendour and beauty. It is an unforgettable place were for a few hours you can relax amidst England's proud heritage, letting your mind slip gently into the past when another Elizabeth sat on Britain's throne, daring deeds were being committed by Raleigh and Drake, lords and ladies romanced and little children danced merrily around a maypole. It was indeed an England of dreams.

The Hall is just a short distance from Stockport and is owned by the local council. It is open to visitors all the year round.
